April 25th, 2014 The ISG (www.gerontechnology.info) biennially organises an international conference (www.isg2014.org) and masterclasses for young researchers and has its own magazine. During one of these masterclasses, the International Society for Gerontology (ISG) for PhD students in Nice, the Best Poster Awards were won by Simone Boerema: not only for the masters (professors) but also for PhDs. The masterclass was organised by ISG masters which were invited to give lectures. They define gerontechnology as ‘designing technology and environment for independent living and social participation of older persons in good health, comfort and safety’. Simone’s poster described her research on physical activity of elderly, how this can be measured and what the differences are between physical activity and sedentary behavour.
